In this course, we partner with a local museum educator to learn the principles of looking at and describing a work of art. Participants apply these skills to make sketches directly from the museum works. Building communication skills is a core tenant for this program, and exercises are designed to have members of the group describe a painting while their partner draws what they hear, without looking at the work. Parallels to interdisciplinary rounding and provider hand-offs will be made with the goal of improving team communication. The sessions end with a personal response tour in which participants are given a card with a prompt about an experience they have had in their training or practice, and asked to link it to a work in the museum that resonates with the prompt. After a period of reflection, the group will share their thoughts with the group. This sparks personal reflection and connection to the mission of our work as clinicians, and highlights our shared experiences.
